Arts & Culture
Huron-Kinloss has numerous cultural assets that make this a great community in which to live, work and play. You will find historic landmarks, such as the Point Clark Lighthouse; beautiful beaches and natural surroundings; cultural industries; organizations that work towards enhancing both the physical and social aspects of the community; fun events for all ages; and spaces that foster creativity.
Below is a map of our cultural assets. Click on the points to get more information about what is there. This map is currently being developed so please check back for additional information!
Huron-Kinloss Cultural Mapping and Planning Project
In 2011, the Township of Huron-Kinloss was awarded a grant of $20,150 under the Creative Communities Prosperity Fund. With this grant a cultural mapping exercise and Municipal Cultural Plan (MCP) was completed.
CoBALT Connects was hired in August to assist us in developing the Cultural Action Plan. To learn what residents loved about living in Huron-Kinloss and what culture means to the community, Jeremy Freiburger of CoBALT Connects led a launch event and three community workshops; conducted several interviews with business owners, community organizations and community champions; visited the grade 7's and 8's at the elementary schools in Lucknow and Ripley; and hosted a social evening for parents of young children.
The goal of this project was to increase awareness of the Township’s cultural assets and showcase our community’s uniqueness. Through the implementation of the Cultural Action Plan we are aiming to strengthen the relationship between culture and economic development, tourism and land-use planning.
The Cultural Action Plan is available for download on the right side of this page. Above you will find a map which locates our many cultural assets.
The Township of Huron-Kinloss was fortunate enough to receive Cultural Development Fund grant monies from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport in 2014 to establish a Cultural Roundtable. The Township hired Cobalt Connects to establish this Roundtable and work with the group for a year on initiatives.
