We are a not-for-profit organization established in 2012. Our goal is to increase Canada's food plant diversity while addressing the issues of food insecurity, reducing environmental impacts and opening up opportunities to sustain small farm operations.
Come enjoy our rustic surroundings, reconnect with food and its sometimes crazy history. Some of our plants date back to 4000BC!
Open Thursday through Sunday June 1st - October 1st (open holiday Mondays).
Self-guided tours daily. Guided tours Thursday through Sunday or by appointment.
Admission is by donation.
You will find a variety of apple trees along the Ripley Rail Trail, which runs past the Bruce Botanical Food Gardens. These trees grew from seeds in apple cores thrown from the windows of trains that used to pass through the village. The community's favourite apple was chosen in the fall of 2013 and named the Ripley Apple. The Bruce Botanical Food Gardens will be grafting the Ripley Apple tree so more of these apples will be available. To learn more about this project, click on the link below to listen to an interview with CBC Ontario Morning. The interview starts at approximately 44:52.
