Building

The Building Department is responsible for the regulation and enforcement of the Ontario Building Code. Through the building permit and inspection process the Building Department ensures that all building projects meet the minimum standards as set out in the Ontario Building Code as well as any by-law of the Township of Huron-Kinloss, the County of Bruce and other Regulating bodies. The Chief Building Official reviews all plans, assists in the completion of a building permit application and performs various on-site inspections. Several inspections are carried out during construction and upon completion. It is the responsibility of the permit holder or the agent/contractor acting on the behalf of the property owner to book appointments for the required inspections. 

It is important to note that many of the changes that require a building permit will result in a change to your assessment for property taxes.  For more information please see the paragraph about supplementary bills in our property tax section.  All property owners should check with the Building Department prior to starting any building project.
