Huron-Kinloss Drinking Water Systems
The Township of Huron-Kinloss is awaiting approval of its Drinking Water Quality Management System as established to meet the requirements of the Municipal Drinking Water Licensing Program and the Safe Drinking Water Act. Included in this process is the development of Operational Plans for each of the four municipal water systems, which are maintained by Veolia Water Canada. The four systems, Lakeshore, Lucknow, Ripley and Whitechurch, pump water from groundwater sources.
Weekly water test results, as well as annual reports for the Huron-Kinloss water systems can be viewed at the Municipal Office during regular business hours. Also, the annual reports for 2010 are on the right-hand side of this page. The annual reports for 2008 and 2009 testing can be found in our 'Documents Library' under 'Municipal Office'. (scroll down to Reports - Drinking Water).
Sample results from the H-K water systems indicate the presence of Sodium Chloride and Fluoride. Sodium Chloride is a common non-toxic material naturally present in groundwater and produces a detectable salty taste. Some systems contain higher than the Maximum Acceptable Concentration (MAC). If a resident is on a sodium-restricted diet or has concerns regarding health issues, they should contact their physician or the local health unit. Fluoride is also naturally occurring in groundwater and while small amounts are considered to be protective against tooth decay, excessive levels may lead to dental fluorosis. If you have any concerns, contact your dentist or the local health unit.
The Huron-Kinloss water systems supply naturally occurring hard water. If you have a concern, contact your local plumber about the possible use of a water softener.
