Township Staff Participates in Podcast

To share insight on what a “day-in-the-life is like” for a Municipal Clerk and The Hub’s Business Development Coordinator, Huron-Kinloss staff have participated in What’s Your 9 to 5? Podcast.

What’s Your 9 to 5? is a podcast that highlights different rural Ontario careers in Grey and Bruce Counties, and allows young listeners to explore career opportunities and learn what their “dream” job could be.

Recently, Huron-Kinloss Clerk Emily Dance and The Hub’s Business Development Coordinator Lauren Eby were featured on the Podcast, sharing their career stories, their roles within the municipality and the importance of each position.

What’s Your 9 to 5? is a program created by the Hanover Launch Pad Youth Activity & Technology Centre and features youth co-hosts who ask questions about what individuals love about their job, what their education pathway was, and tips and tricks to be successful in the career.

The Launch Pad is a regional, not-for profit centre that promotes the positive skills development of youth 12-18 years of age. The centre encourages youth to gain the skills they need to become active and contributing members of their communities. Aside from youth skills development programs, the Launch Pad also offers adult skills training and programming for seniors over 55 years. The 6000 sq. ft. facility includes a commercial kitchen, welding lab, woodworking facility and digital media lab.

In February 2020, the Township of Huron-Kinloss, the Municipality of South Bruce in partnership with the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) provided funding to the Launch Pad to expand opportunities for young people in Huron-Kinloss and South Bruce. The funding was to allow local schools to take advantage of the programs offered at the Launch Pad and encourage youth to enhance their skillset and connect with local employment opportunities. The $5,000 investment lowered the program fees for youth in Huron-Kinloss and South Bruce to visit the centre and explore Launch Pad’s skills development programs. The funding was provided through the NWMO Regional Fund.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 Pandemic forced the Launch Pad and its programming to temporarily shut down. Portions of the funding were used to cover some costs associated with the What’s Your 9 to 5? Podcasts and would feature career opportunities in Huron-Kinloss.
