Water Well Improvement Program

The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) and Nuclear Waste Management Organization have partnered to offer the Water Well Improvement Program. This program provides financial support for landowners to help protect groundwater. The funding program is a cost-sharing program to decommission or upgrade private wells. The program is being facilitated through the SVCA, please contact them for more information about the program. 

Details:

Two areas of the SVCA Water Well Incentive Program are shared below, to be read in collaboration with the program guidelines.

1. Well Decommissioning (2 Tier):
Properly decommission abandoned wells that are dry or no longer being used, to eliminate link between groundwater and surface water:
a) For wells on private property outside of Municipal Drinking Water Well Head Protection Areas(A,B and C):
Well decommissioning: support 100% of the costs up to a maximum grant of $1,000
b) For wells on private property within a Municipal Drinking Water wellhead protection Area (A,B and C):
Well decommissioning: support 100% of the costs up to a maximum grant of $2,000

2. Wellhead Protection and Upgrade (2 Tier):
Upgrade to water wells currently in use to protect these water wells from surface contamination:
a) For wells on private property outside of Municipal Drinking Water Well Head Protection Areas(A,B and C):
Wellhead protection and upgrade: support 80% of the costs up to a maximum grant of $ 750.00
b) For wells on private property within a Municipal Drinking Water wellhead protection Area (A,B and C):
Wellhead protection and upgrade: support 80% of the costs up to a maximum grant of $1,500.

Eligibility:
1. A grant to implement all or some of the well head protection and well decommissioning related project as part of the WWIP program may be paid to an individual applicant who:
• is a resident of Ontario
• is a registered owner of property in the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority’s watershed.
• for farm properties, the completion of an Environmental Farm Plan is required.
• is undertaking the project voluntarily
• if your project is on rented/leased land, you will need to submit a letter from the property owner with your application form indicating that the owner approves of the proposed project.
