Women in Construction Accepting Applications for Second Cohort Starting September 18th, 2023

Join the Women in Construction training program and break new ground in the world of construction!
The Township of Huron-Kinloss has partnered with Bruce County, Fanshawe College, VPI Working Solutions, the UBC Local 2222 Carpenter's Union, Employment Ontario, the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario to offer Women in Construction, a program created to introduce women to the trades.
There are no pre-requisites; however, grade 10 English and math is recommended.
Women in Construction will offer:
- 4 weeks of foundational skills training
- 10 weeks of carpentry training
- 8 - 12 week paid work placement
Participants will also receive the following training courses:
- Mental Health in the Workplace
- Workplace Violence and Harassment
- In-Shop Skills Training
- Math & Communications
- Fall Protection, Confined Space
- WHMIS
- Basic Health & Safety Awareness
- Power Elevated Work Platforms
- Transferable Skills
- Resume Building
- Employment Readiness
Funding may be available to reduce employment barriers such as daycare and transportation. All participants will receive a pair of work boots, a tool belt and basic tool kit.
