Facility Tour Information

To help Huron-Kinloss residents have a better understanding of Canada's plan to store the high-level nuclear waste, the Nuclear Waste Management Organization coordinates tours of both the NWMO Oakville Demonstration Facility and the Ontario Power Generation (OPG) Western Waste Management Facility at Bruce Power. These tours are available throughout the year and will be open to Huron-Kinloss residents. NWMO Oakville Demonstration Facility 

Tours for 2019 have ended. The 2020 Tour Schedule will be posted when it becomes available.

Residents will learn first hand about the extensive design, optimization and proof-testing program that is underway to support the safe, long-term management of Canada's used nuclear fuel. This tour will provide the opportunity to see the facility where the NWMO conducts test on a number of aspects related to the Deep Geological Repository (DGR) and related multi-barrier system for the long-term containment and isolation of used nuclear fuel. Current work is focused on the engineered barriers and placement technologies, a safe and secure transportation system, and above and below ground design concepts.
Transportation will be provided. Pre-registration is required as space is limited.


Ontario Power Generation Western Waste Management Facility Tour

This tour provides an opportunity to see how used nuclear fuel is currently managed on an interim basis at the Ontario Power Generation (OPG) Western Waste Management Facility at the Bruce Power Site. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about Canada’s plan for the long-term management of used nuclear fuel.

Transportation will be provided. Pre-registration is required as space is limited.
