BURN BAN UPDATE TOWNSHIP OF HURON-KINLOSS
Effective Immediately Under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, subsection 4(1) Mayor Twolan has declared that the Township will not permit open air burning in any Fire Department jurisdiction within the Township of Huron-Kinloss (Lakeshore Area, Ripley, Lucknow, Rural Areas of geographic Township of Huron and Township of Kinloss) until the pandemic situation has been addressed and an emergency has been declared to no longer exist.
This ban applies to all open air burns, beach fires and recreational fires (campfires) in accordance with the Township of Huron-Kinloss Open Air Burning By-Law No.2016-139 (as amended); additionally all fire permits are suspended and no new fire permits will be issued.
An exemption to this order will apply to all agricultural zoned properties in the Township of Huron-Kinloss. Between the dates of May 01, 2020 to May 15, 2020. During this period agricultural zoned properties may conduct open air burning to prevent any interference with the planting of crops, raising of livestock and food production.
These measures have been put in place to limit responders coming into contact with COVID-19 and allow them to focus their efforts where they are needed.
“During this very challenging time when we are fighting the spread of the virus, our number one priority is the health and safety of the residents. Your ongoing support for our first responders is greatly appreciated during these extraordinary times” said Twolan.
We apologise to our residents for the confusion they have experienced regarding the burn ban.
