Win This Space 2019/2020

Making the leap to becoming an entrepreneur can be daunting and may be the reason you’ve never followed your dream of business ownership. Or perhaps you have an existing business that’s ready to make the leap from home to storefront?

Win this Space is the program you’ve been waiting for; developed as a tool to support you on your journey to opening a business in downtown Lucknow or Ripley. Entries don’t have to be limited to new business concepts: A business that’s ready to move to the area; or even business expansions are eligible to participate. Sole proprietorships, partnerships and/or second locations - this program is an ideal launching point.

There’s no better time to bring your business concept to life than with the Win This Space Program and the application is simple:

  1. Fill out the online form.
  2. Upload your resume.
  3. Upload a 1- 3 minute video that describes your business concept and why you think it will be successful in downtown Lucknow or Ripley.

That’s it! Three easy steps and you’re entered into Huron-Kinloss’ Win This Space Contest. Applications for permitted businesses in the commercial areas of Lucknow and Ripley will be accepted between October 21st and midnight on November 10th.

Still looking for another reason to enter? This year, your odds of winning are increased as we will be awarding a Grand Prize and a Runner-up Prize Package! Both will include $5,000 towards a one-year storefront lease and a $2,500 start-up grant. In addition, each package will feature prizes to assist with marketing, networking and opportunities for grant funding.

Once the applications have been reviewed by the judging panel, 5 finalists will be chosen to continue to the next stage of the contest. All applicants will be notified if they are moving on or not.

Participants will engage in three workshops designed to assist in the preparation of their business plan and financial projections as well as one-on-one consultation time with a Business to Bruce team member.

Finalists must submit their completed business plans by Friday, January 3rd for the judging panel to review in advance of the entrepreneur presenting their business proposal in a “dragon’s den” style format on Friday, January 17th. Each finalist will have 10 minutes to present their plan and an additional 10-15 minutes for questions from the judges. The winner will be announced that evening.

Our first Win This Space program winner, FIG Studio Kitchen, has become a vibrant anchor in the downtown of Ripley while the winner of last year’s program, The Pot Still Eatery, has been serving up delicious eats from their eclectic storefront on Lucknow’s main street since June of 2019.

Stop putting your entrepreneurial dreams on hold and enter today; you could be the next Huron-Kinloss Win This Space success story!
