About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and cautious Crossing Guard to join our team and ensure the safety of students crossing at the designated crosswalk. Our ideal candidate will be friendly and compassionate while safely assisting children on their daily commute to and from school.

  • Assist school-aged children in safely crossing established crosswalks.
  • Stop and direct traffic using the necessary safety equipment, maintaining a safe and orderly flow of vehicles.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness among students, emphasizing the importance of walking bicycles across the intersections.
  • Stay vigilant and report any traffic violations or unsafe practices that may compromise child safety to the appropriate authorities (OPP).
  • Be prepared to respond to incidents or emergencies, taking swift action to obtain necessary assistance.

Who We're Looking For:

  • Someone who is knowledgeable with a solid understanding of the Highway Traffic Act and its applicable rules and regulations is essential.
  • Prior experience working with people, especially in a customer service or community-focused role.
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and drivers.
  • A completed vulnerable sector check is mandatory to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.
  • The ability to stand for extended periods, up to 2 hours per day, is essential.
  • Resilience to work in various weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures, rain, and snow.

About the Role: 

  • A key component of this role is road maintenance. You will perform snowplowing, sanding, and patrolling to ensure safe road conditions; monitor and inspect roads, bridges, and culverts for defects; repair road surfaces, ditches, washouts, and obstructions; clean, paint, and maintain bridges, guard rails, and posts.  
  • You would install road signs, patch pavements, and assist with street light maintenance; support Parks and Recreation with tasks like moving picnic tables and event preparation.  
  • Support local service clubs and sponsored events.
  • You will conduct preventive and routine maintenance on Township equipment; assist tradespeople with repairs; keep the public works garages clean, organized, and safe.  
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments for seamless operations; respond promptly to public inquiries, resolve concerns, and demonstrate a strong commitment to community service.

Who We're Looking For: 

  • Someone who may hold or have the ability to obtain a chain saw license, AZ/DZ driver’s license, and Municipal Pit & Quarry designation.  
  • Proven experience in operating heavy equipment and interacting with the public in a professional manner and possesses excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and the public.  
  • Demonstrates mechanical aptitude for performing preventive and routine maintenance on equipment and is equally comfortable working independently or as part of a team, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.  
  • Exhibits strong hand-eye coordination, mental alertness, and quick decision-making skills to handle dynamic situations efficiently.
