Council Highlights January 15th, 2024

The Township of Huron-Kinloss Committee of the Whole and Council meetings were held in Council Chambers at 21 Queen Street in Ripley beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The highlights from both meetings include:

Deloitte Strategic Plan Final Presentation to Council

Members of the Deloitte team presented Council with the final draft of the 2023-2033 Strategic Plan: Blueprint for Our Future. The Deloitte team shared with Council the Vision and Mission developed:

Vision – The Township of Huron-Kinloss is a unified, engaged and caring community that cultivates opportunities and embraces a rural lifestyle.
Mission – We deliver responsive services that respect our environment and resources and prepare our community for the future.

Huron-Kinloss Community Septic Inspection Program Annual Report

B.M. Ross presented the Community Septic Inspections Program Annual Report to Council to provide information regarding the program for 2023. In 2023, 408 septic inspections were completed (including 52 inspections for new properties/replacement systems). The Township is in the first year of the third cycle of inspections. McTavish Subdivision Site Servicing Plan Approved

A Site Plan Control Agreement has been entered into between 2427255 Ont. Inc and The Corporation of The Township of Huron Kinloss. The owner proposed a development of multi residential including semi detached dwellings and townhouses for a total of 44 units. Having the agreement finalized allows for the rest of the development to proceed along with construction of the units.

Park Street Municipal Drain Tender

The Clerk presented a report to Council outlining the tender results for the Park Street Municipal Drain, tendered in December 2023. Phase 1 of the Park Street Municipal Drain is located primarily within the Village of Ripley. The lowest tender was submitted by TAS Excavating & Rentals Ltd. in the amount of $457,685.80. Staff and the Project Engineer recommended that Council award the tender to the lowest bidder, which Council passed by By-Law.

2024 Garbage Collection Contract

The Township’s current contract for the collection and disposal of curbside garbage with Bruce Area Solid Waste Recycling (BASWR) expires on March 31, 2024. Staff presented a report recommending curbside garbage to be collected and disposed of at the Huron Landfill, which is consistent with our previous garbage collection contracts. Council accepted the proposal from BASWR for a renewed two-year term collection service for $389,185.94.

Upcoming Meetings

The next Township of Huron-Kinloss Committee of the Whole and Council meeting is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on February 5th, 2024. These daytime meetings will be held in Council Chambers at the Municipal Office, 21 Queen Street in Ripley.
