Fire Prevention Week Family Open Houses: October 6–8

Huron-Kinloss Fire & Emergency Services is inviting residents to join them for Family Open Houses in Ripley, Lucknow and Point Clark during Fire Prevention Week, October 4 to 10, 2026.

Meet local firefighters, enjoy family-friendly activities and pick up practical tips to help keep your home and family safe.

Three Open Houses will take place throughout the week:

The Open Houses include:

• Touch a Truck
• Free hot dogs, chips, treats and drinks
• Fire prevention activities for kids
• Fire safety information for the whole family

Everyone in the community is welcome to attend, meet local firefighters and take part in the activities.

This year's Fire Prevention Week theme is Charge Into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower!

From phones and tablets to laptops, power tools, toys, e-bikes and scooters, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are part of our everyday lives. Simple charging habits can help reduce the risk of a fire in your home.

Always use the cord and charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer. Charge devices on a hard, flat surface away from anything that can burn, and unplug them once they are fully charged.

Know the warning signs

If a battery or device becomes very hot, starts to swell, smells strange, leaks, smokes, or makes popping or hissing sounds, stop using it.

For larger items such as e-bikes, scooters and power tools, charge outside when possible and never block an exit while charging.
