Council Highlights September 15th, 2025

The Township of Huron-Kinloss Council Meeting was held in Council Chambers at 21 Queen Street in Ripley at 7:00 p.m. Highlights from the meeting include:

Presentation by the County of Bruce: Proposed Geologic Carbon Storage Regulations in Ontario

Council received a presentation from Jack Van Dorp, Director of Planning and Development at the County of Bruce, regarding Proposed Regulations for Geologic Carbon Storage in Ontario. The draft report outlines a proposed framework for permanently storing carbon dioxide underground in porous rock formations, with potential storage zones identified beneath Lake Huron and Lake Erie. The proposed legislation would require municipal endorsement before permits are issued, and highlights the importance of working with Indigenous communities and ensuring oversight by the Ontario Land Tribunal. Council requested that the comments within this report be submitted to the provincial government through the Ontario Regulatory Registry, with added emphasis on environmental protections.

Integrity Commissioner’s Annual Report

Council received the Integrity Commissioner’s Annual Report to Council for 2025, prepared by Principles Integrity. The report explains the Commissioner’s responsibilities, which include advising Council on the Code of Conduct and conflict of interest matters, investigating complaints, and offering education to both Council members and the public. This report supports the Township’s ongoing commitment to transparency, ethical decision-making, and providing resident-focused services.
