Council Highlights September 6th, 2023
The Township of Huron-Kinloss Committee of the Whole meeting was held in Council Chambers at 21 Queen Street in Ripley at 7:00 p.m.
Highlights from the meeting include:
Delegation
Edward Henley, Director of Corporate Services with the County of Bruce, provided a presentation to Council on the proposed County development charges. The Background Study is available for review. More information on the Bruce County development charges can be found at Development Charges | Bruce County.
Property Assessments to Remain Unchanged for 2024
Council received a property assessment update report from the Treasurer. On August 16th, 2023, the Ontario government filed Regulation 261/23 under the Assessment Act to extend the current assessment cycle and the valuation date of January 1, 2016 through to the end of the 2024 taxation year.
This announcement means that property taxes for the 2024 taxation year will continue to be based on the January 1, 2016 valuation date. Property assessments will remain the same as they were for the 2023 taxation year unless there have been changes to the property.
Ripley Lions Club Book Exchange at the Point Clark Community Centre
Council authorized the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Township and the Ripley Lions Club for the placement of a book exchange at the Point Clark Community Centre. The book exchange will be located beside the entrance on the exterior of the Point Clark Community Centre, 344 Lake Range Drive.
Strategic Plan Workshop Dates and Community Survey
Council received a report for information that included updates on the strategic planning process. Currently the strategic plan is in its engagement phase: the community survey was launched on August 16th and one community workshop in Ripley has taken place.
Community Survey
To date there have been 59 responses to the community survey. The majority of responses are from residents above the age of 50 who have their primary residence along the Lakeshore in Huron-Kinloss. Staff encouraged Council to share the community survey link with residents in hopes of hearing from a wider audience before the September 30th deadline. The community survey is available at https://www.huronkinloss.com/community-survey/. Paper copies are available at the Township office in Ripley (21 Queen Street).
