Public Works: What to Know This Month
Fall is a busy season for Huron-Kinloss Public Works. From roads and municipal water systems to waste and seasonal services, here are the key updates and reminders to know as we prepare for winter.
Make the Most of Your Leaves This Fall
Before bagging up your leaves, consider putting them to work around your property! Mulched leaves can add nutrients to your lawn, protect plants over winter, enrich your compost and provide habitat for local wildlife.
Learn more about your options for managing fall leaves.
If you prefer to dispose of your leaves, there are two other options available.
Curbside Leaf Collection
Curbside leaf collection will be provided on the following dates:
- Monday, November 9, 2026 – Lucknow and Ripley
- Tuesday, November 10, 2026 – Lakeshore communities from Amberley to Huronville
Please place leaves in paper yard waste bags only. Bags must weigh no more than 11 kg (25 lbs.) and be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.
Yard Waste Depots
The Township’s Yard Waste Depots are open 24/7 until winter conditions require their seasonal closure.
📍 2083 Concession 6 E, beside the Huron Landfill
📍 907 Havelock Street, Lucknow, south of the soccer fields
The depots accept leaves and garden waste in paper bags, brush and branches under six inches. Please do not leave logs, stumps, construction materials, household garbage or large dump loads.
Fall Hydrant Flushing
Routine fall hydrant flushing is scheduled in Ripley and Lucknow from November 2 to 16, 2026.
During this time, residents may experience temporary changes in water pressure or discolouration of water. If this occurs:
- Remove faucet screens and filters.
- Run cold water for approximately 20 minutes, or until the water runs clear.
- Avoid washing white laundry between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to help prevent staining.
Thank you for your patience as this important maintenance work is completed.
Closing Up the Cottage? Schedule Your Water Shut-Off
If you’re preparing your seasonal property for winter, remember to arrange your water shut-off at least 48 hours in advance. There is no fee for this service.
Curb stops should only be operated by the Water Operating Authority. Property owners remain responsible for draining their own water lines to help prevent pipes from freezing or bursting.
📞 To schedule your water shut-off, call 519-395-3735.
Road Trimming
To help prepare for winter operations, the Township is trimming overgrown trees and brush along municipal roads. This work helps improve sight lines, reduce potential damage to vehicles and equipment, and maintain safe access for emergency services.
Road trimming has been completed along Lakeshore roads and will continue on concession roads and sideroads through mid-November. Please use caution when travelling through active work areas.
Road Construction Updates
The Township continues to complete road improvement projects before winter. The following work is scheduled or underway:
- Park Street, Ripley – Scheduled to be completed by the end of October.
- Huron Street, Ripley – Sidewalk construction is expected to be completed in early November.
- Guest Avenue, Kinloss – Paving is anticipated by mid-November.
- Southline Avenue and Bushell Street Intersection – Paving is anticipated by mid-November.
Please expect occasional delays in these areas while work is underway. Construction schedules may change depending on weather conditions and contractor availability.
Thank you for your patience as we work to maintain and improve Township roads.
Winter Parking Reminder
While the snow may not be here yet, winter parking restrictions are now in effect. Overnight parking is not permitted on municipal roads between November 1 and April 30, from 1:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Keeping roads clear helps ensure snow plows can get to work safely and efficiently when winter weather arrives.
Thank you for helping keep Township roads clear and accessible this winter.
Golf Car Season Ends November 30
The 2026 golf car season will come to an end on November 30. As part of the Provincial Golf Car Pilot Program, golf cars must be removed from Township roads after this date.
