Voter Information

Voting in the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election will be open from 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 19 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 26.

Your Voter Information Letter contains the unique PIN and instructions you’ll need to vote online or by telephone. Use the information below to learn more about your Voter Information Letter, voter eligibility, registration, how to vote and where to get help.

Voter Information Letters have been mailed to registered voters. Keep your letter in a safe place. It contains your unique PIN and instructions for voting.

Voter Registration and Updates

Not sure if you’re on the Voters’ List or need to make a change? It’s not too late.

You can still register or update your information for this election. Choose the section below that best matches your situation.

Earlier this year, Ontario’s Register to Vote website allowed voters to register or update their information online for the 2026 Municipal & School Board Election.

Online registration and updates are now closed for this election. If you need to register or make a change, you must now do so in person at the Municipal Office.

Call the Elections Line at 519-395-5150 or visit the Municipal Office at 21 Queen Street, Ripley to check if you’re on the Voters’ List and that your information is correct.

If you’re not on the Voters’ List or your information needs to be updated, continue to Step 2: Register or Update Your Information.

If you’re not on the Voters’ List or need to make a change, you can register or update your information in person until 8:00 p.m. on October 26.

What to Bring

Bring acceptable identification showing your name and qualifying Huron-Kinloss address.

You’ll also need to complete an Application to Amend the Voters’ List (Form EL15).

You can fill out the form when you arrive or download and complete Form EL15 before your visit.

When to Visit

The Municipal Office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except Monday, October 12, when the office will be closed for Thanksgiving.

Additional weekend hours are available for voter registration and assistance:

Saturday, October 10: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Can’t Visit the Municipal Office in Person?

If you’re unable to visit the Municipal Office in person, you may authorize someone you trust to act on your behalf. They can submit your required documents and pick up your Voter Information Letter for you.

What Your Agent Needs to Bring

The person you authorize will need:

a completed Application to Amend the Voters’ List (Form EL15) signed by you
original or certified true copies of acceptable identification showing your name and qualifying address, including at least one piece of photo identification
a completed HK115 Form (Permission to Release a Voter’s Information Letter)

When Your Agent Visits

Your agent will be asked to complete a form confirming that they received your Voter Information Letter on your behalf.

After Your Documents Are Submitted

Submitting the required documents does not automatically mean your Application to Amend the Voters’ List has been approved. You will be contacted if your application is refused.

Voter Eligibility

You may vote in the Township of Huron‑Kinloss Municipal and School Board Election if you meet all of the following requirements on voting day.

Who can vote

You are eligible to vote if you are:

At least 18 years old
A Canadian citizen
A resident of the Township of Huron‑Kinloss, or
An owner or tenant of land in the Township (or the spouse of such an owner or tenant).

If you own or rent property in Huron-Kinloss but live in another municipality, you may qualify as a non-resident elector if you meet the eligibility requirements.

Eligible voters may only vote once in a municipality and once for a school board, even if they own or rent more than one property.

Who cannot vote

You are not eligible to vote in a municipal election if you are:

Serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution
Convicted of a corrupt practice related to an election and prohibited from voting
A corporation

You cannot vote on someone else’s behalf under a power of attorney or in any other representative capacity.

Special circumstances

Students: If you are a student living away from your permanent home while attending school, you may be eligible to vote in both your home municipality and the municipality where you live while attending school, if you meet the applicable eligibility requirements.

Property owners and tenants: You may be eligible to vote in Huron-Kinloss if you own or rent property in the Township, even if you live elsewhere, provided you meet the other eligibility requirements.

Voters’ List / Register to vote

Your name must be on the voters' list to vote.

Even if you have voted in a previous election, you should make sure your information is correct.

This is especially important if you:

Are a seasonal resident or a co-owner of a property
Live in an apartment building or a newer subdivision
Have turned 18 since the last election or are a student living away from home

The Province of Ontario's Register to Vote service can no longer be used to add or update information for the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election.

If you need to register to vote or update your voter information, please contact the Township of Huron-Kinloss. You can apply to:

Add your name to the Voters' List
Update your name or address
Correct information on the Voters' List

Applications can be submitted until the close of voting on October 26, 2026.

If you are applying to be added to the Voters' List, you will need to provide proof that you are eligible to vote.

Voter Information Letters

Eligible voters on the voters’ list will receive a Voter Information Letter by mail before the voting period begins. This letter includes your secure PIN and instructions on how to vote.

If you do not receive your letter, contact the Township for assistance.

School support

Your school support designation determines which school board trustee candidates appear on your ballot.

What is school support?

Eligible electors may choose the school board they wish to support, subject to the applicable rules.

If no choice is made, support defaults to English‑Public

School support affects school board elections only, not municipal races

If you want to change your school support designation for the 2026 election, contact MPAC as early as possible.

How to update school support

The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) manages school support information.

Property owners and tenants can review or update their school support designation online through MPAC’s School Support Designation page.

Online updates and registrations may take up to 24 hours to process.

How to vote

The Township of Huron‑Kinloss uses internet and telephone voting for the municipal and school board election.

Voting period

Opens: Monday, October 19, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.
Closes: Monday, October 26, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. (Election Day)

You may vote at any time during the voting period.

What you need

Before voting begins, eligible registered voters will receive a Voter Information Letter with:

A secure PIN
Instructions to vote online or by telephone

Voting by internet

You may vote online using a computer, tablet, or mobile device by following the instructions provided in your letter.

Voting by telephone

You may vote using a touch‑tone telephone by calling the number provided and entering your PIN when prompted.

Voter identification

If you are required to provide identification when completing an election-related service in person, you must provide a document showing your name and address. Photo identification is not required.

If you are applying in person to add your name to the voters' list or update your information, you will need to provide identification showing your name and address.

Examples of acceptable identification include:

Ontario driver's licence
Ontario Photo Card
Ontario health card, if your name and address are printed on the card
Mortgage, lease or rental agreement
Insurance policy or insurance statement
Bank or credit card statement
Utility bill
