About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and cautious Crossing Guard to join our team and ensure the safety of students crossing at the designated crosswalk. Our ideal candidate will be friendly and compassionate while safely assisting children on their daily commute to and from school.

  • Assist school-aged children in safely crossing established crosswalks.
  • Stop and direct traffic using the necessary safety equipment, maintaining a safe and orderly flow of vehicles.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness among students, emphasizing the importance of walking bicycles across the intersections.
  • Stay vigilant and report any traffic violations or unsafe practices that may compromise child safety to the appropriate authorities (OPP).
  • Be prepared to respond to incidents or emergencies, taking swift action to obtain necessary assistance.

Who We're Looking For:

  • Someone who is knowledgeable with a solid understanding of the Highway Traffic Act and its applicable rules and regulations is essential.
  • Prior experience working with people, especially in a customer service or community-focused role.
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and drivers.
  • A completed vulnerable sector check is mandatory to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.
  • The ability to stand for extended periods, up to 2 hours per day, is essential.
  • Resilience to work in various weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures, rain, and snow.

About the Role: 

The Building Inspector is responsible for:

  • Reviewing and processing applications for building, plumbing, and septic permits, ensuring compliance with the Ontario Building Code, municipal by-laws, and all applicable legislation.
  • Conducting thorough inspections of construction projects, renovations, and septic systems to verify adherence to approved plans and regulatory standards.
  • Providing clear, courteous guidance to contractors, property owners, and the public regarding building code requirements, permit processes, and municipal regulations.
  • Maintaining accurate records of inspections, investigations, and correspondence, and contribute to reports and surveys for municipal and government use.
  • Collaborating with internal departments and participate in development-related meetings to support planning, zoning, and by-law enforcement initiatives.

Who We're Looking For: 

  • Holds post-secondary education in Building Sciences, Engineering, Architectural Technology, or has completed a relevant building trades apprenticeship, with a strong foundation in construction systems and practices.
  • Brings experience in the building or construction industry, ideally within a municipal setting, with solid knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, Building Code Act, and related legislation.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with residents, contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Possesses strong analytical and organizational abilities, including the capacity to interpret construction drawings, manage multiple priorities, and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, with the physical ability to navigate construction sites, climb ladders, and adapt to varying work environments and conditions.
