Council Highlights March 18th, 2024

The Township of Huron-Kinloss Council meeting was held in Council Chambers at 21 Queen Street in Ripley at 7:00 p.m. Highlights from the meeting include:

Telecommunication Antenna Structure

Council supported the installation of a 65-meter self-support tower structure by Shore Tower Inc. located off of Silver Lake Road in order to strengthen the telecommunications network to better support increased demands for consumer connectivity, the digital economy, and health and safety measures in the community. The tower will support multiple carriers and will be governed by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISCD).

Health Care Reserve Fund

Council has established a Health Care Reserve Fund to be used for Health Care related projects. The financial commitments from the Township to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation will be deposited in the Health Care Reserve Fund until made use of by the Foundation.

Budget Adoption

Council has approved the 2024 Budget.  The 2024 Budget contains $15.9 million in operating expenditures and $9.7 million in capital expenditures.  After revenues and transfers from reserves are applied, the Township must levy $10,803,422; an increase of $697,284 or 6.9% over the 2023 levy.  In order to raise these funds, the residential tax rate will be set at 0.00723628; a 4.6% increase over the 2023 tax rate.
