Landfill

We have two landfills in the Township of Huron-Kinloss, the Huron Landfill and Kinloss Landfill. See below for specific information on types of waste accepted at each.


Huron Landfill

The Huron Landfill is located at 2087 Concession 6 East, Ripley ON, N0G 2R0.

Hours of operations: Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., year round.

What You Will Need to Bring

When bringing waste to our landfills, the following things are expected: 

  • We take cash or debit only. No credit cards. 
  • Proof of residency. Only residents and property owners can use the Landfill sites. You may be asked for proof of residency in Huron-Kinloss such as your driver's license or a tax bill. Please bring something with you so you are not turned away.
  • Proof of Source. Only waste from Township properties can be taken to the Landfill sites. If you are not a property owner in the Township but are bringing waste from the Township ie. contractor, please fill out the Proof of Source form and provide it to the attendant.

  • If you are making regular disposals at the landfill and would like to have an account, please complete and submit the Landfill Credit Application form. Allow at least 2 business days for processing.

  • Respect and Responsibility. The landfill is under the RZone policy which is to promote respect, commitment, and considerate relationships between the Township and the public to foster a safe and positive environment. Please respect our Staff and they will in turn respect you. Thank you. 

Recycling Programs Available 

We have the following options available at the Huron Landfill to help you Reduce, Re-use, and Recycle and create a more sustainable environment

Let's keep all plastics out of the landfill!  The Township of Huron-Kinloss is working with Switch Energy 2024 Inc to recycle all kinds of agricultural plastics responsibly including:

  • Bale wrap (white)
  • Baler twine
  • Boat wrap (blue/white)
  • Bunker plastic (white/black)
  • Commercial shrink wrap
  • Greenhouse film (white)
  • LD and LLD films
  • Shavings bags
  • Water softener salt bags

To start recycling your plastics:

  • Request recycling bags from our landfill staff (no cost)
  • Clean your plastics from debris
  • Stuff the plastic into the recycling bags. Please use a different bag for each type.
  • Return to the landfill
  • Pay by tonne (See construction waste below for the price/tonne.)

Single-use batteries only. No car batteries or lead acid batteries ie. lawn mower, boat.

Free of charge!

You can dispose of electric and electronic products free of charge. We have an expanded list of items which basically includes anything with a cord. Don't forget to wipe your drives, clear your SIM cards, and protect your privacy!

Mattresses and box springs are taken off site for recycling. See below for the per item/fee

A shipping container is available for clean, dry expanded polystyrene free of charge.  Please see link for details and conditions.

We recycle any scrap steel including appliances free of charge

Note on appliances:

  • Glass shelving is to be removed and placed in the pit. 
  • Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers are required to have CFC tags to prove that hazardous Freon/coolant has been removed.
  • Items without a CFC tag will be charged a fee.  See below for the per item fee.

All tires are accepted for recycling except large tractor tires, free of charge.

Kinloss Landfill

The Kinloss Landfill is located at 690 Kairshea Ave.

Hours of Operation: Seasonally April - October only, Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Accepted waste. All Free of Charge:

  • Brush
  • Scrap steel & white goods (any Freon must be removed prior to drop off)
  • Tires
